Lay readers assist the parish priest in the leading of public worship, specifically in the reading, or lectoring, of sacred scripture during worship services.  As such, they must love God's Word Written and seek to communicate it clearly in the service. Additionally Lay readers may lead most parts of Word services like Morning or Evening Prayer and often assist at Holy Communion as chalice bearers, helping with the administration of the sacrament.  At All Saints' Sunday 8 AM service, the Lay reader also serves as an Acolyte.
